I once illustrated a fictional ad for this non-fictional fad:
An earlier draft of my #sciart illustration of microbial carbon use efficiency, with the central cell's metabolic strategy striking a balance between burning off carbon as CO2 or tipping the scales toward sequestration as necromass in soil, with a "pulp sci-fi cover art" feel
What's happening in this #sciart...? Carbon Use Efficiency is efficiency of converting C to biomass rather than energy; microbes are shown shunting glucose either to glowing vectors of escaping CO2 or cagelike forms representing new daughter cells...
And, of course, a warmed Arctic is bad for everyone: thawed permafrost immediately starts to release thousands of years of stored carbon (since the Ice Age!) as greenhouse gases, leading to more warming...

.which flow into periurban wetlands, murky with waste. Antibiotics (orange asterisks) used in feed on hog farms create antibiotic-resistant bacteria which escape into wetlands when concentrated fecal waste leaks out into the landscape..
The story shown in my graphic depicts sudden thaw of permafrost creating low inundated areas where meltwater seeps to the surface, suppressing plant cover and carbon uptake..but eventually that water can find an "escape route" and leave a drained, drier landscape
